The Prox Attack Shelf Smelt Round Tip GS (攻棚ワカサギ丸穂先GS) is replacement tip component, a short glass solid rod tip designed for use with Prox's Attack Shelf wakasagi (pond smelt) reel system. Wakasagi fishing is a Japanese winter/ice-fishing practice made for small smelt in frozen lakes or deep reservoirs. The round cross-section glass solid tip provides a circular profile compatible with the standard 5mm diameter tip holders on Prox's electric wakasagi reels, replacing worn or broken stock tips.
Tip material is glass solid (PBT/glass composite), chosen for flex sensitivity at extremely light load ranges (0.5–3.0g). Two action designations, SSS (super-super-super soft, fluorescent yellow) and SS (super-super soft, fluorescent orange), provide different bite detection sensitivity. The round-tip GS designation differentiates it from flat-section (standard) replacement tips; the round profile seats more securely in certain reel tip holders and provides more uniform bend across all planes.
Four SKUs cover two lengths (21cm/WMHG21, 28cm/WMHG28) and two actions (SS/SSS) at each length, standard (SS/SSS) and short (SSS/SS). The 21cm tips suit compact reel setups; 28cm tips extend the bite-detection arc. SS action handles the slightly heavier end of wakasagi jig weight (up to 3g); SSS is for the lightest sub-1g setups where bite detection is hardest.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
21cm tip in SS (super-super soft) action, orange color coding. Rated 0.5–3.0g; the slightly stiffer of the two actions at this length. Suited for wakasagi jigs at the upper end of the light-tackle range.
21cm tip in SSS (super-super-super soft) action, yellow color coding. Rated 0.5–2.0g; extremely fine tip diameter (0.45mm) for detecting hesitant bites on the lightest wakasagi rigs.
28cm tip in SS action, longer arc increases visual bite detection sensitivity. Preferred when watching the tip instead of feeling is the primary cue, e.g. In noisy or vibrating boat environments.
28cm tip in SSS action, maximum sensitivity at maximum visible arc. The longest, softest option in the set; best for detecting the faintest bites in cold, slow conditions.
