The Prox Semetana Wakasagi Flat Tip GS is a Japanese ice fishing (wakasagi) rod series for smelt, specifically the ice-jigging style practiced through drilled holes in frozen lakes in Japan. These are extremely short rods (21–32cm / under 13") used vertically while seated over ice. The "Flat Tip" designation refers to the flattened glass solid (GS) tip cross-section, which reduces rotational play under line tension and improves the transmission of micro-strikes from smelt weighing only a few grams. The glass solid tip provides a forgiving, highly visible bend indicator instead of the stiff sensitivity of carbon.
Tips are painted with fluorescent thread wraps in color-coded actions (SSS=yellow, SS=orange, S=red, ML=green) for easy bite detection in low-contrast winter light above ice. Base diameter is 5mm, compatible with a wide range of wakasagi electric and manual reels in the Semetana system. Rod weight is 3–5g depending on length, effectively weightless in-hand. The "GS" suffix distinguishes these glass-solid-tip models from the carbon-tip SEMETANA FLAT CARBON TIP (WHCH) variants in the same Semetana lineup. Eleven models across three lengths (21cm/28cm/32cm) and four action ratings (SSS, SS, S, ML).
Each length is available in all four actions. The SSS models are the most sensitive, suited to smelt in clear, still conditions where bites are nearly imperceptible. ML models handle heavier sinkers or slightly more aggressive jigging styles. The 32cm (1'1") models offer marginally more stroke for deeper-water holes.
