The Daiwa 2026 North Coast SS is a salmon and steelhead specialty series for Pacific Northwest river and coastal applications. The lineup covers side-drifting, plunking, back-bouncing, drift fishing, and float/bobber fishing for chinook, coho, steelhead, and related species. The action and length selections reflect PNW guide-style fishing from drift boats and jet sleds. Blanks are built on IM7 graphite composite -- a proven material for sensitivity combined with durability under the repeated load of heavy sinker rigs and large fish.
Natural cork handles are standard. Titanium oxide ring guides with fluorescent orange-tipped blanks provide visual bite detection -- a functional choice for side-drifting where tip movement signals strikes. The lineup carries a 1-year limited warranty, placing it in the value-to-mid tier instead of premium. The 17 models span a wide range of applications. Spinning models run 7'6"-9'9" in MH and M power for float fishing, back-bouncing, and open-bank casting. Two short baitcasting L/R-action models (NCX762LR at 7'6", NCX802LR at 8'6") are side-drift rod configurations -- slow-action light blanks for reading subtle drifts.
MH/F casting models at 7'6"-7'10" cover plunking and back-bouncing. XH/F casting models at 9'6"-10'6" are surf or estuary-class for heavy sinkers (4-16oz) made for tidewater chinook. The NCX7101HFB (7'10" H/F) and NCX7101XHFB (7'10" XH/F) are among the stoutest river bank-fishing models.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Light-power slow-action side-drifting configuration. The L/R combination at 4-8lb is for finesse drift presentations in clear low-water conditions made for winter steelhead. The soft slow action provides visual tip indication of bottom contact and subtle strikes during the natural drift.
The longest spinning model in the series at 9'9" M/F. Suited for float fishing with larger bobbers and heavier jig/bead rigs in higher-flow river conditions where longer rod reach improves line mend control. The M power keeps it versatile for both coho and steelhead.
The longest and heaviest-rated model at 10'6" XH with 4-16oz lure capacity. Specialized for tidewater or lower-river salmon fishing with heavy sinker rigs -- estuary plunking or surf-style casting where distance and sinker weight are requirements.
