About Fishman
Fishman (フィッシュマン) is a baitcasting rod specialist based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, run as the Fishman division of Alea Co., Ltd. under founder and CEO Kenichi Akatsuka. The brand grew out of Akatsuka building handmade baitcasting rods for trout stream fishing, a discipline most Japanese makers serve with spinning gear, and that focus still defines the company. Its entire rod catalog is baitcasting only, with no spinning rods offered.
The lineup is organized around five series. Beams is the core, versatile family that runs from BFS micro-lure work up through medium applications. Brist covers heavier-power needs such as seabass and pike in cover. B.C.4 and B.C.5 are four-piece and five-piece travel formats that pack the full power range into a portable length. Seadz applies the brand's casting-blank engineering to offshore jigging. Fishman targets anglers who fish baitcasting tackle exclusively, or who want it for jobs where a spinning rod is the usual default, and it builds blanks around low backlash, casting distance, and pinpoint accuracy with a single rod across a wide lure range.
What Fishman is known for
Fishman is best known as a baitcasting-only rod maker that brings bait reel technique to seabass, trout, and light freshwater game fishing, including styles where most brands default to spinning. It is recognized for the versatile Beams family, for fitting a full power range into the multi-piece B.C.4 and B.C.5 travel formats, and for blanks designed to cast a wide lure range with low backlash.
