About Alpha Angler
Alpha Angler is a direct-to-consumer bass-rod company founded in 2012 by Jake Boomer, an engineer and competitive angler in Spokane, Washington. Boomer began building custom rods by hand in 2010 and launched the company as demand grew. The rods are made in the USA and sold only through alphaangler.com, with no retailers, so the retail markup is skipped and put back into components.
The line is small and technique-specific, with each rod individually named for the job it does. Reaction and moving baits get the S-Glass and S2-Glass composite cranking blanks: Rebound 2.0, Mag-Rebound, ChatterBound, Slasher 2.0, TopHammer, and the XH Wide Glide 2.0 for big glide baits and swimbaits. The ZILLA 2.0 and its limited-edition xHM ZillavAAdr 2.0 are the all-purpose Toray graphite casting rods, originally designed as frog rods and broadened to Texas rigs, jigs, and tubes. Flipping and heavy cover fall to the H Hitter 2.0 and XH Mag-Hitter 2.0, plus the Power Skip and the Clutch power-finesse stick. The finesse spinning side runs on Toray high-modulus graphite: the Wrench, 76er, DSR 2.0 drop-shot rod, Finesse Spybait, ShAAkr, and the limited-edition LiteSAABRE.
Every blank carries the proprietary Low-Drag guide system built from 316 stainless steel, plus an aluminum counter-balance butt-cap that offsets the reel for a lighter tip. Models are shaped by prostaff and customer input, and most carry a 2.0 second generation. Bassmaster Elite pro Brandon Palaniuk, the first Alpha Angler prostaff member, helped design the line and won the 2017 Angler of the Year title fishing these rods.
What Alpha Angler is known for
The ZILLA is Alpha Angler's best seller and its most-decorated tournament rod, a 7'3" MH Toray graphite stick that started as a frog rod and became an all-purpose casting platform for jigs, Texas rigs, and tubes. Around it sits a job-by-job lineup: the Rebound and Mag-Rebound glass cranking rods, the H Hitter for flipping, the DSR drop-shot rod Palaniuk fished to Angler of the Year, and the Wrench and ShAAkr finesse spinning rods. Every rod is made to order in the USA and sold direct, with no retail markup. Buyers weighing Alpha Angler typically cross-shop Dobyns, G. Loomis, Phenix, Kistler, and Cashion.
