About Whisker Seeker
Whisker Seeker Tackle is a United States catfish-tackle specialist founded in 2015 by Matthew Davis in Iowa and now based in Grimes, Iowa. The company builds rods, terminal tackle, rigs, floats, and accessories for blue, flathead, and channel catfish, and ran a direct-to-consumer model rather than selling through big-box retail. In October 2022 it was acquired by PRADCO Fishing, part of PRADCO Outdoor Brands; Davis stayed on to run the brand from Iowa.
The rod range is organized around catfish methods. The Chad Ferguson signature FMJ2 Full Metal Jacket and GFX2 Graphite rods share an S-glass and carbon-graphite composite blank, differing mainly in reel seat: a full-metal aluminum double-locking seat on the FMJ2, a heavy reinforced graphite double-locking seat on the GFX2. Both use cork-composite grips. The Hog Seeker is a medium-heavy trophy-cat blank, the Catfish & Carp series was designed with Luke Nichols on an IM7 carbon-glass blank, the Bump'n Styx is a dedicated bumping rod built on IM8 Toray carbon with S-glass, and the Whisker Stick is a 40-inch solid-glass short rod.
The line is positioned as purpose-built catfish gear across drifting, trolling, tightlining, bumping, and shore or dock fishing.
What Whisker Seeker is known for
Purpose-built catfish rods sorted by method rather than a single all-around model. The FMJ2 and GFX2 signature rods cover general trophy-cat work on S-glass and carbon-graphite composite blanks; the Hog Seeker is a medium-heavy blank rated for 2 to 12 ounce sinkers; the Bump'n Styx is a bumping rod on IM8 Toray carbon and S-glass; the Catfish & Carp models suit lighter bait fishing; and the 40-inch Whisker Stick is a short solid-glass rod for vertical, dock, and boat fishing. Cross-shopped against B'n'M, Ugly Stik, Catch the Fever, and Tangling With Catfish.
