About Yak Rods
Yak Rods (YakRods) is an American company making fishing rods built specifically for kayak anglers, positioned as a rod brand devoted entirely to that sport. The rods are designed and built by kayak anglers and are made in the USA on premium composite blanks. The blanks are left unsanded, which the company says keeps them rugged while retaining sensitivity. The line centers on freshwater bass techniques and a few inshore applications, and the rods are built shorter and lighter than typical bass rods to suit the close quarters and reach of a seated kayak angler.
The catalog is organized into three groups. The Foundation Pro is a three-rod set meant to cover most freshwater applications from one bag. The Specialty Series is a set of technique-specific rods (bladed jig, drop shot, BFS, crank, flip and punch, and an inshore model, among others). The Tethered series pairs all-purpose spinning and casting rods with the brand's Y-HD magnetic tether. Every rod uses a patented aluminum end cap compatible with the magnetic Y-HD Tether and the Mighty Micro Rod Keep, a retention system the company built to address rods going overboard. Components include American Tackle guides and, on some models, Microwave Air guides.
What Yak Rods is known for
Kayak-specific bass and inshore rods built shorter and lighter than standard bass rods. USA-made unsanded composite blanks marketed as durable but sensitive. The patented Y-HD magnetic tether: a quick-release magnet with a UV-treated, PVC-coated steel wire cord that expands from 34 to 60 inches and clips to the kayak with a marine-grade carabiner, attaching through a proprietary aluminum end cap. The Foundation Pro is a three-rod all-water set; the Specialty Series covers single techniques; the Tethered series ships all-purpose rods built around the tether. Cross-shopped against other kayak-focused and technique-specific bass rod makers.
