About Sonik
Sonik Sports was founded in 2008 by Ian McCormack, who spent ten years as commercial director at Hardy & Greys before that company was absorbed into the Pure Fishing group. The head office and main warehouse are in Blyth, Northumberland, and a second distribution centre outside Prague was added as European demand grew. The catalogue covers carp, specialist coarse, and sea fishing tackle, distributed through tackle dealers across the UK and Europe.
The early SK3 and SK4 carp rods established the name: high-modulus blanks with sensible component specs at prices that undercut the established carp brands, and the current SK-47 range keeps that lineage in the catalogue. Carp rods remain the core of the rod programme, running from the entry-level Hero-X through the SK-47 to the distance-oriented Kraft, all rated by test curve and built around Japanese shrink-wrap grips, DPS reel seats, and M-Series DL guides.
The Xtractor family is the brand's most recognisable design. Each rod carries a retractable butt section, so a 6ft model transports at 74cm and a 10-footer at 127cm without breaking the rod down into pieces. The format now spans standard carp rods, cork-handled and upgraded Custom versions, 4.5lb spod builds, and a Specialist group of float, Avon, barbel, and twin-tip rods. The ANGL-R range extends the same value approach to dedicated river barbel rods, complete with luminous tip coatings and clip-on isotope holders.
What Sonik is known for
Sonik is known for spec-heavy rods at aggressive prices, and above all for the Xtractor concept: compact carp rods whose butt sections retract for transport, so a 9ft rod packs to 113cm and rides in a car boot ready to fish. The original Xtractor sold for under £50 and became a default stalking and small-water rod in UK carp fishing. Before that, the SK3 and SK4 ranges made the brand's early reputation, and test-curve-rated carp rods from 6ft stalkers to 13ft distance blanks remain the core of the catalogue. The ANGL-R barbel rods carry the same approach onto rivers.
