About Brightliver
Brightliver is a Japanese rod maker run by Matsumoto Kazuyoshi (Brightliver Tackle Co.) that builds gripless topwater bass rods. The blanks, roughly 5 to 6 feet, are glass, glass-carbon composite, or high-elasticity carbon, and they terminate in a metal champion-style ferrule instead of a fixed handle, so the angler fits their own grip and reel seat. The rods are designed for casting wood and plastic topwater plugs, generally from about 1/4 to 1.5 oz, and the maker describes a deliberately fast (first) taper with a soft tip that loads the blank for accurate short casts.
Brightliver uses a four-digit model code. The first digit marks blank material (1 = glass, 2 = glass-carbon or carbon composite, 3 = carbon or glass-carbon build), the second and third give length (56 = 5'6"), and the fourth is power on the maker's own 1 to 5 scale. So a Glaflex #1562S reads as glass, 5'6", 2-power; a Black Bass #3563GCS as a 5'6", 3-power glass-carbon rod. Suffix letters note guide or build spec.
