About Millerods
Millerods is the production-rod line of Ian "Barra" Miller, an Australian custom rod builder who has worked under The Australian Rod Builder name on the south coast of New South Wales and has designed rod ranges for tackle companies including Shimano Australia since 1995. Millerods adapts some of Miller's most popular handcrafted designs into imported production rods, with a lineup built around clear-water bass and lure-casting fishing developed in Australian conditions. In 2018 the brand launched a US Bass range in partnership with Bassmaster Elite angler Carl Jocumsen, and it now sells in the United States through retailers such as Tackle Warehouse.
The catalog is organized as technique-specific models rather than broad named series. The "Freak" family covers individual presentations: FinesseFreak for light finesse work, SwimFreak and the Ambush for swimbaits and big baits, CrankFreak for cranking, and JigFreak for jigs, alongside related models such as FrogFreak, FlipFreak, and BeastFreak. Many models use a multi-loading taper that handles a wider lure-weight window and transitions power after hook-up on mono or braid. The rods are built on custom graphite blends with minimalist, raw-blank construction, and are fitted with Fuji components, including SK reel seats and Alconite and Fazlite K-series guide trains.
What Millerods is known for
Technique-specific bass casting rods, each tuned to a single presentation: FinesseFreak, SwimFreak, CrankFreak, JigFreak, and the Ambush and BeastFreak swimbait rods. The line is known for a house multi-loading action that covers a broader lure-weight range, a minimalist raw-blank build on custom graphite blends, and Fuji hardware (SK reel seats, Alconite and Fazlite K-series guides). The designs trace to Ian "Barra" Miller's Australian ultra-clear-water finesse fishing. In the US market, the rods are cross-shopped against premium technique-specific brands such as Megabass.
