The Lamiglas SI Salmon & Steelhead series is the brand's top-tier offering for Pacific Northwest drift, float, and hardware fishing for salmon and steelhead. It is handcrafted in Woodland, Washington, and positioned for experienced anglers who fish larger, faster rivers and demand maximum sensitivity for subtle bottom-contact takes alongside power to turn big chinook or summer steelhead in heavy current. Blanks are high-modulus graphite, the highest modulus Lamiglas uses across its salmon/steelhead line.
This translates to the best sensitivity-to-weight ratio in the Lamiglas catalog but also the least tolerance for mishandling, high-sticking or debris strikes are more likely to cause breakage than with the brand's fiberglass or 24-ton graphite series. Fuji SK2 reel seat. Handles are custom-shaped for balance. Limited lifetime warranty. Retail is at the upper end, approximately $400–$450 per rod. The 10-model lineup covers 7'10" to 10'6" in both casting and spinning configurations. Powers run L to MH; actions F and MF.
At 9' and shorter, casting models are available for side-drifting hardware and back-trolling. Spinning models from 9'4" to 10'6" cover float fishing and drift fishing with longer reach. The 10'6" models (SI106MC casting, SI106MHS spinning, SI106MS spinning) are the longest and best suited for float-fishing steelhead or salmon in deep, clear runs. The lone L-power model (SI96LS, 9'6" spinning) is the lightest finesse option, suited for summer steelhead on lighter line.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The shortest and heaviest model; built for back-bouncing heavy roe bags or side-drifting large plugs (Kwikfish, etc.) for fall chinook in heavy current. The MF action absorbs the rod bounce inherent to trolling applications.
Only L-power model in the series; 6-8lb line serves low, clear summer steelhead conditions where light presentation is mandatory. The 9'6" length maintains mending ability in larger flows.
Longest casting model; 10'6" casting configuration is relatively uncommon, suited for two-handed or extended-reach presentations from bank in larger rivers, keeping line off the water during drifts.
