Float rods built for centerpin reel fishing for steelhead and salmon on Great Lakes tributaries and Pacific Northwest rivers. The centerpin technique requires long drifts with minimal line tension, the rod must mend line easily, absorb shock on hooksets against light leaders, and still have backbone to lift fish from current. Target angler fishes with a freerunning centerpin reel and prioritizes long natural drifts with floats. Not applicable to baitcasters or spinning gear.
High-modulus graphite blank with fiberglass-reinforced lower 25% for lifting torque without sacrificing tip sensitivity. Progressive parabolic action, not fast-taper, which matches the smooth shock-absorption centerpin fishing requires. Oversized recoil guides on upper section reduce icing in cold-weather conditions; ceramic guides on lower section. Carbon fiber weave handle warms quickly in cold weather. Float-depth indicators along the spine are a practical field feature for setting hook depth quickly.
Fixed reel seat version noted in retailer listings. Four models across two lengths: 12' (CCP12M in M/MF, CCP12MH in MH/MF) and 13' (CCP13L in L/M, CCP13ML in ML/M). The 12' models are heavier-power options for salmon or robust steelhead runs; the 13' models step down in power and use a slower medium action suited to lighter leader fishing for steelhead and trout. All are spinning-style configurations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Heaviest model in the series. 10-20lb line handles heavier salmon-oriented leaders and larger floats. MH power provides authority to stop big fish in fast water. Better suited to chinook or coho runs than finesse trout work.
Lightest and longest model. 4-8lb line with light power and medium action is specialized for finesse steelhead and trout on clear-water tributaries where presentation quality determines success. Extra length aids mending on wide water.
