The Major Craft Area model listing combines two distinct product lines: the Finetail Area (FAX prefix) and the Trapara Area (TXA/TXAT prefix). These are not the same rod. FAX is the higher-grade Finetail series, a full model change using SiC-S guides and Cross Force bias construction; TXA/TXAT is the entry-tier Trapara series using standard Fuji O-ring guides. Both target area trout fishing. Catch-and-release trout in Japanese managed-access ponds (エリアトラウト/area trout), using micro spoons, small cranks, and tiny plugs typically under 5g.
Neither series is well-suited to river stream trout or saltwater use. FAX blanks are high-modulus carbon with Cross Force butt reinforcement to suppress twisting. The Finetail page specifies SiC-S Fuji guides (lighter than standard SiC), delivering sensitivity gains for detecting subtle takes on micro lures. FAX rod weights are 50–80g. The glass variants (FAX-602UL/G, FAX-642L/G) use a new-development glass sheet construction. Lighter than full glass. For a more forgiving hook-up profile on small crankbaits. TXA rods use standard Fuji O-ring guides and retail at roughly half the FAX price point.
TXAT models are 4-piece telescopic for travel. The FAX lineup covers 5'5"–6'4" across spinning, solid-tip spinning, glass, and baitcasting sub-groups. Solid-tip (FAX-S) models in the 5'5"–5'10" range are optimized for bottom contact and extremely short-bite detection. Baitcasting FAX-B models (5'8"–6'4") address the growing area bait-finesse segment in Japan. TXA spinning covers 5'–6'3"; TXAT telescopic models are 6' only, offered in two power tiers.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model in the Trapara lineup at 5'. Per manufacturer copy: designed for use by youth, women, and anglers with limited mobility. Despite the compact length, it handles spoons, topwaters, and minnow twitching.
Shortest solid-tip model at 5'5" with EX.F action and a lure floor of 1/48oz (~0.6g). Per manufacturer copy: designed for bottom-contact lure work in area ponds, where the solid tip transmits contact and light strikes that a tubular tip would miss.
Area baitcasting at 5'8" UL. Per manufacturer copy: serves crankbaits, small metal vibs, and topwater plugs in the Japanese area bait-finesse style. Side-casts, backhands, and flip casts. Accessible for anglers new to baitcasting.
New-development glass sheet blank. Lighter than traditional full glass. Regular-fast action is softer than the carbon FAX models. Per manufacturer: designed for micro plug fishing in tough conditions where the glass flex profile prevents pulling hooks on light-biting fish.
4-piece telescopic (振出) design with semi-hard case included. Per manufacturer copy: paired with TXAT-604UL as a two-rod travel set covering spoooning and plugging separately. The SUL variant focuses on micro spoon work.
