The Dear Monster Original (MX) series is Monster Kiss's foundational lineup of multi-piece travel rods built for pursuing large and exotic freshwater fish around the world. Every rod in the series packs down to 50 cm or less, fitting inside carry-on luggage, while using parallel-joint blanks with double-foot guides and double-thread wrapping throughout for durability that challenges the assumption that multi-piece rods are inherently weak. The range spans five-piece short spinning rods starting at 5'4" all the way up to six-piece casting and spinning rods reaching 8'6", with a separate monster-class tier capped by the off-the-charts MX-Infinity models rated to PE 12-15 and lure weights exceeding 1 kg.
All MX rods share a modular grip system with a standardized 13 mm diameter insert that makes grips, blanks, and extension parts interchangeable across the lineup. The split-grip design converts between uplock and downlock spinning configurations on the spinning models, while the casting models feature a stainless SiC guide train set at the blank ends for structural reinforcement at each joint. Power ratings run from Medium-Light on the MX-5S through Medium, Medium-Heavy, Heavy, and Extra-Heavy, up to the brand's own "Unstandard" (off-chart) classification reserved for the MX-Infinity pair.
The series was designed primarily for overseas travel fishing targeting large freshwater species such as giant snakehead, arapaima, golden mahseer, and similarly scaled targets, but the lighter spinning models serve equally well for trout, bass, and light saltwater duty. All rods are carbon construction with stainless SiC ring guides. Prices run 59,950 yen for the standard models and 65,890 yen for the longer or heavier variants.

A closer look at notable models.
The rod that started the Dear Monster concept. Originally designed as a compact backup to a full-length rod for lost-luggage protection, the MX-6 proved so capable it redefined Monster Kiss's entire direction. Its 5'6" length and regular taper suit boat fishing with precise lure placement and smaller river work. The grip-interchangeable system debuted here and became standard across the entire lineup.
The MX-Infinity is the original off-the-scale model in the Dear Monster lineup, rated well beyond any standard power class. Strength-tested to an estimated 25 kg at 60 degrees (the test machine maxed out at 20 kg). At 7 feet and 5 pieces it packs to 50 cm and handles lures from 20 g to 500 g on PE line up to 12. Monster Kiss markets it as suitable for coelacanth-class targets, with the blunt note that no conventional rod category applies to it.
The flagship of the Dear Monster lineup and the rod that defined Monster Kiss as a brand. The MX-7 is a 7-foot, 6-piece casting rod that set the template for the series: sub-50 cm pack length, parallel-joint blanks, all double-foot guides with double wrapping, and a modular split grip. Strength testing recorded up to 14 kg lift at 60 degrees. Handles boat and shore fishing in fresh or light saltwater, and is considered the first rod to buy in the lineup.
