Spec 3 is RGM's compact small-fish pole series built around extreme pack dimensions. The core spec.3 comes in three lengths from 1.2m (3'11") to 1.8m (5'11"), all packing to 23.2cm. Carbon content is 37-40% and weights run 27g (120), 42g (150), and 61g (180). The 8- to 12-piece telescopic construction fits in a jacket pocket or small pouch.
The spec.3 OT is a tanago-specific variant for bitterling fishing with a very soft slow-response tip. The 90cm and 120cm models use 11.4-18.6% carbon, weigh 13g and 17g, and pack to 22.5cm. The spec.3 180R and 240R are soft-action (R = nanchoji / slow-tip) variants tuned for presenting to wary crucian carp and other cautious small fish; they pack to 25.8cm and 31.8cm. The spec.3-OT 継 is a jointed-section (not telescopic) tanago rod at 14.3cm packed length. It is 100% carbon at 12.6g, available in three fixed lengths from 0.63m to 0.86m, and intended for bitterling specialists who prefer jointed rod response.
All Spec 3 models suit urban stream and pond fishing, consistent with the RGM brand's lifestyle-fishing positioning. The OT and OT 継 sub-models address the specialized technique requirements of tanago fishing, where the tiny hook set window and delicate mouth of bitterling demand a very soft, compliant tip.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The spec.3-OT 継 (Tsugi = jointed) is the most specialized item in the spec.3 range: 100% carbon at 12.6g, packing to just 14.3cm, in three adjustable length settings from 0.63m to 0.86m. The kake-choji (hook-set) action is the opposite of the OT's soft tip, designed for the instant hook-set required when bitterling mouths are extremely small and the take is gone in a fraction of a second.
The lightest rod in the RGM lineup at 13g. 11.4% carbon gives the blank a very low modulus and extremely slow recovery, suited to detecting the subtle take of tanago (bitterling). 6-piece at 22.5cm packed. Designed for small-stream tanago fishing with a short drop-line.
At 27g and 23.2cm packed, the spec.3 120 is the smallest rod in the RGM catalog. 8-piece telescopic at 1.2m (3'11"). Suited to stream pockets and urban ditches where a longer rod would be unworkable. The 37% carbon delivers a soft, sensitive tip.
The 240R is the longest soft-action variant in the spec.3 family at 2.4m (7'10"). 20% carbon, 10-piece, packs to 31.8cm. The R (nanchoji / slow-tip) action presents lures and rigs with a gentle arc rather than a snap, which suits cautious crucian carp and similar wary small fish.
