The Rogue V Jig is St. Croix's mid-tier saltwater vertical jigging series, positioned below the Rift Jig in the lineup and made for nearshore to offshore anglers working metal jigs and assisting hooks over reef and structure. The 12-rod series gives anglers parallel casting and spinning configurations, with line weights from 15 lb up to 150 lb, covering a wide range of jigging depths and target species. Blanks use Matrix Composite, a proprietary blend of woven E-glass, SCII carbon fiber, and ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology) scrim, combined with St. Croix's Fortified Resin System (FRS) and Taper Enhancement Technology (TET).
This material combination is designed to balance lightness, sensitivity, and impact toughness, a departure from pure carbon blanks, adding durability for saltwater use. Guides are K-style tangle-free stainless steel with Alconite rings, lighter than SiC while maintaining durability. Reel seats are nylon and stainless steel with dual locking nuts. Handles are ergonomically contoured split-grip EVA foam. MSRP is approximately $195–$255, placing these at an accessible premium tier. The 12 models provide casting and spinning parallels across six length/power combinations: 5'3" XXH (65–120/150 lb), 5'4" XH (50–100 lb), 5'6" H (40–80 lb), 5'8" MH (30–65 lb), 6'3" MH (30–65 lb), and, spinning only, 7'0" M (20–50 lb) and 7'0" ML (15–40 lb).
The two 7' spinning models without casting counterparts are unique to the spinning sub-group, likely suited to lighter slow-pitch or speed jigging in shallower water.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Heaviest casting model; 5'3" XXH at 65–120 lb for high-speed jigging on large amberjack, big grouper, or other heavyweights at depth. Short blank maximizes lifting power with minimal leverage loss.
Spinning counterpart to the XXH casting model; notably rated 65–150 lb vs. 65–120 lb on the casting version, a higher upper limit that may reflect brake management differences with spinning reels on heavy drag.
Spinning-only; Casting counterpart at 7' M is absent. Longer than the rest of the series by a significant margin. Well-suited to lighter slow-pitch presentations in moderate depths where jig control over longer drops benefits from extra length.
Lightest-rated model in the series; 7' ML at 15–40 lb for the most finesse-oriented jigging applications. Effective on smaller reef species, lighter metal jigs, or shallower nearshore situations.
