The Tailwalk EGIST SD is a mid-tier eging (squid jigging) rod in Tailwalk's EGIST family, positioned below the TZ (Torzite guides) flagship but above entry-level options. Supervised by eging specialist Tsuyoshi Kono, the SD serves squid anglers who want a stripped-back, lightweight build without paying premium component prices. Primary quarry is Japanese spear squid (surume ika) and big-fin reef squid (aori ika) using EGI lures from shore.
Blanks use a balanced medium-to-high modulus carbon mix, trading some raw stiffness for resilience under the repeated sharp jerks of eging technique. All guides are Fuji SiC, a step up from entry-level SiC-alternatives, offering line durability and heat dissipation when running PE braid. Models marked /SL carry a carbon solid tip, providing extra sensitivity for detecting subtle squid takes; tubular-tip models offer more direct feedback for confident jigging.
Five spinning models run 7'2" to 8'6", all regular action, spanning ML, ML+, and M power. Four are conventional tubular models; the S86L/SL at 8'6" with light power and fast action is the solid-tip finesse outlier, suited to cautious squid in clear conditions. Casting models in this lineup is absent.

A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model at 7'2" with ML+ power, the compact, slightly stouter pick for close-quarters rocky shore or tight platforms where swing room is limited but a bit more backbone is useful for larger EGI sizes.
Solid-tip (/SL) finesse build at 8'6" light power, fast action. Longer reach than most in the lineup; carbon solid tip amplifies bite sensitivity for wary or inactive squid. The technique-specific outlier in an otherwise uniform regular-action set.
