The Tailwalk KEISON RUNSBACK SPEC-K is a three-rod spinning series built for large trout and salmon on wild rivers, developed with Hokkaido-based field staffer Kazutoshi Kasuga, who has fished salmon and big trout in Russia, Alaska, Canada, and across Japan's wetland rivers. The series addresses anglers making expedition-style trips made for rainbow trout, sea trout, steelhead, red salmon, and king salmon in challenging conditions. It sits above the general-purpose SPEC-N in the KEISON lineup.

All three rods are 2-piece spinning rods with wood reel seats (Tailwalk "Type A" grip), Fuji double-foot guides (PKWSG/PKTSG series) selected for durability against heavy fish, and a tip tuned to reduce unnecessary vibration for accurate casting. The wood reel seat reflects the expedition orientation of the series. Regular action across all three models provides a sustained bend useful for absorbing long runs of large anadromous fish without losing contact or lifting leverage.

The lineup progresses from 7'4" H to 8'1" SXH (super extra heavy), scaled to river size and expected fish weight: S74H (7'4"/130g/max 30g) for smaller-to-medium rivers and fish to ~70–80 cm; S78XH (7'8"/145g/max 35g) as the allrounder, proven on native trout over 1 m, steelhead, and first-run king salmon; S81SXH (8'1"/155g/max 40g) as the maximum-power model with three double-foot guides for the largest fish. Deeper Dive

A closer look at notable models.

S74H Spinning · 7'4" · H · R action

The entry-length model at 7'4"/130g, suited for small-to-medium rivers and poor or high footholds per Tailwalk's documentation. H power handles fish over 70 cm reliably; shorter length aids maneuverability in structure-heavy environments.

S78XH Spinning · 7'8" · XH · R action

The allrounder in the series, confirmed by field testing on native trout over 1 m, first-run king salmon in Alaska, and steelhead. XH power at 7'8" handles both overhand and alternative cast methods, keeps heavy lures moving in strong current, and provides a relatively long end grip for two-handed fish fighting.

S81SXH Spinning · 8'1" · XXH · R action

The most powerful model at SXH/XXH rating, carrying three double-foot guides for structural integrity during extended fights with the largest fish. Long butt section enables two-handed technique. Per Tailwalk: proven on multiple expedition destinations and the strongest rod in the series.
