The Tailwalk SLOW BUMP SSD is a dedicated slow-pitch jigging (SPJ) conventional rod series built for vertical and near-vertical jig presentations from boats. Thirteen models address the full range of slow-pitch depth zones and jig weights, from shallow inshore work up to deep offshore serves. The series is designed to maximize the rhythmic, flutter-on-fall action that defines SPJ technique. Target species include amberjack, snapper, yellowtail, grouper, and other bottom-oriented offshore fish. The SSD designation covers two distinct blank constructions within the same series.
Tubular (non-FSL) models use orthodox slow-pitch blanks with strong recoil and direct angler-to-jig input, favoring sharper, more aggressive jig movements. Full Solid (FSL) models, identifiable by the /FSL suffix, use all-longitudinal-fiber solid blanks that create a progressive parabolic bend and absorb strong fish runs more smoothly. FSL blanks are typically preferred for larger fish or when a softer, more controlled fight is needed. All models are 5'5"–6'5", castable with conventional reels. Hardware includes Fuji KT and LKW guides and Fuji T-DPS reel seats.
The 652 SAKE JIG model is the lone 6'5" outlier; all others are 5'5" or 6'3". The lineup runs from models numbered 631 through 639 (tubular, differentiated by power/jig weight) and FSL counterparts at 555, 632, 633, 634. The numeric suffix generally corresponds to heavier jig ratings as the number increases. The 555/FSL is the shortest and lightest-jig model at 5'5". The 652 SAKE JIG is a specialty model keyed to saury-style jig presentations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model in the series at 5'5", FSL construction. The full-solid blank in an ultra-compact format suits close-quarters boat fishing in tight quarters or shallow structures where long rods are impractical. Light jig weights implied by the short, soft build.
Entry-level tubular SPJ model at 6'3". Tubular construction provides more direct feedback and a crisper jig movement than FSL counterparts. Suited for lighter jigs in moderate depths.
Full-solid FSL counterpart to the tubular 632. The parabolic bend absorbs sudden runs and loads smoothly through the fight. Preferred by anglers made for larger fish or those who favor a more forgiving, cushioned rod feel during hooksets.
Mid-to-upper power tubular model; the higher numeric suffix indicates a stiffer blank rated for heavier jigs and deeper water than the 631–635 range. Serves heavier bottom species at depth.
Heaviest-rated tubular model in the 6'3" group. Designed for maximum jig weight within the series, suited to deepwater slow-pitch work where heavier jigs are needed to maintain bottom contact in strong current.
The only 6'5" model and the sole rod with a named technique designation. SAKE JIG refers to a saury-imitation jig style common in Japanese offshore fishing. Slightly longer blank than the standard 6'3" group, designed for specific saury-pattern presentations.
