The Tenryu Red Flip is a JDM offshore light-game series built specifically for tai-rubber (rubber jig) fishing made for madai (sea bream) and related species. The series is designed for boat anglers fishing at varying depths and current conditions from Japanese coastal waters, though it sees use among Western anglers made for similar light offshore species. The entire design philosophy centers on tai-rubber drop and lift presentations. All blanks use Tenryu's Magnaflex tubular construction, low-modulus carbon in the tip section transitioning to medium-modulus from belly to butt, plus Carbon Nano Tube (CNT) material reinforcement in the butt.
This combination produces a blank that loads softly enough to detect reluctant bites while retaining lifting authority against fish at depth. Guides are LG top with K-series stainless/SiC throughout. Reel seats are Fuji PULS (baitcasting models) and Fuji VSS (spinning). Action codes in the lineup include RS (slow), RF (regular-fast), and F (fast), the spread maps to depth and current scenarios, not to lure weight alone. The 10-model batch in this lineup mixes 8 baitcasting and 2 spinning models, from 5'10" to 7'7".
The model suffixes encode technique and weight range: VDN/VDK indicate vertical deep/shallow variants, DN/DK deep narrow/wide, CN/CK cast narrow/wide, LN long-line narrow. The 7'7" RF772B-L/LN is the long-line current-drift model; the 5'10" are close-range or shallow-water specialists.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest and lightest model. VS suffix indicates very shallow, slow-fall application with ultra-light rubber lures, close-range finesse approach for reluctant fish in clear, shallow water.
One of two spinning models; the CN (cast narrow) suffix serves shallow or mid-water fish by casting horizontally instead of dropping vertically. Suited for wary, high-in-the-water-column madai.
Heaviest model in the lineup. DK (deep wide) designation and MH power suggest deep-water work with heavier rubber heads (150g+) in strong current where additional lift authority is required.
Longest model; the LN (long-line narrow) suffix indicates dotera (drift) fishing in strong current. Extra length damps boat motion and manages long vertical drops with 30-180g tai-rubber lures.
