The top of the Gekkabijin ladder, above AIR, MX, RX and the base line. Daiwa builds EX around method rather than species, so the same rods are aimed at both ajing and mebaring. Ajing is Japan's light-jighead game for aji, the Japanese horse mackerel, normally fished after dark on jigheads of roughly 0.4 to 3 g carrying a one to two inch soft plastic. An American angler can read it as crappie and bluegill finesse tackle transplanted into saltwater harbors, with the same emphasis on detecting a fish that inhales rather than strikes. The blanks are SVF COMPILE-X Nanoplus carbon, joined by V-JOINT alpha spigot ferrules and wrapped with X45 Full Shield bias carbon against torsion. Guides are AGS TYPE-R carbon frames, the seat is Zero Seat Compact Fit, and carbon content reaches 100 percent on the 510UL-S and 66L-S. The current run covers 57UL-T through 76ML-T, 1.70 m to 2.29 m, at 42 to 82 g, rated 0.3 to 5 g for the ultralight models and 1.5 to 10 g for the 76ML-T, on PE 0.1 to 0.5. Solid MegaTop carbon tips carry the S designation and fine tubular tips carry the T. A solid tip loads under a fraction of a gram, so a bite that never reaches the hand still registers as a visible tip movement. Each model also carries a kanji name, among them 57UL-T En, 66L-S Rin and 76ML-T Gou.
