The Specialist range is Drennan's big-fish family, aimed at barbel, tench, bream and general specimen work on rivers and stillwaters. The rods wear a deliberately traditional fit-out: dark olive blanks, full cork handles, oversized SiC guides and Drennan's own DPS screw reel seats in 16mm and 18mm. Unlike the match ranges these rods are rated by test curve. The Barbel models are all 12ft two-piece builds from 1.5lb to 2.25lb, spanning light summer leads through to 4oz-plus feeders in strong flows; the Specimen rods run 1.25lb and 1.5lb in 11ft and 12ft for all-round big-fish work; and the Tench & Bream models refine the same idea at 1.75lb and 2lb.
Around the test-curve rods sit the Quiver Tip models, 10ft to 12ft with 60g casting ratings and glass and carbon tips supplied, the River Float trotting rods at 13ft to 15ft, and the X-Tension 13ft Compact Float, a travel-friendly float rod. Hi-Viz tip sections and 8-12lb line ratings on the heavier models round out the specification.
