The Malibu Classic is Lime Country's family of classic-styled baitcasting trout rods, made in Japan in lengths from 4'10" to 8'3". The name references Malibu Creek in California, the southernmost United States river that once held running steelhead, and the maker uses it to frame an environmental theme around native stream fishing. The rods are built for amago, yamame, and sea-run satsukimas, fished with small plugs on a round baitcasting reel.
Every model uses grip-joint variable multi-piece construction. The blank breaks down into an irregular three-piece (four on the most compact model), and the hardwood grip detaches so a damaged section can be replaced without discarding the handle. Blanks are carbon with a composite tip section that blends 2 to 20 percent glass for a soft, progressive bend, finished with titanium-frame SiC guides and Ovangkol grips. Lure ratings run from 8 to 25 grams and nylon line ratings from 10 to 20 pounds, scaling with length and power.
The lineup splits into compact short-stream rods (the 4'10" and 5'6" Light models), all-around 7-foot Light and Medium builds, and the longer 8'3" Medium for bigger water and sea-run fish. Models tagged MINUS are the more packable, shorter-collapsing variants.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 6 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
