The Old18 Buoyancy is the brand's micro-lure freshwater series, made for bass and panfish anglers who fish finesse presentations from light to medium power. It is a direct-to-consumer series from a veteran-founded small brand, positioned for anglers fishing Ned rigs, drop shot, light Texas rigs, and finesse swimbaits on lighter line. The Buoyancy covers both baitcasting and spinning applications in a matched-pair format across UL, L, ML, and M power classes. Blanks are premium modulus carbon composites; specific modulus figures are not disclosed.
Handle construction uses Old18's Northfork Carbon Composite grip, a carbon-fiber split-grip design across all 17 models, mated to Fuji SK2 reel seats. Guides are 316 Alconite. The series is finished in a blue-and-gold wrap with anodized gold accents. Action designations concentrate on Mod Fast (12 of 17 models) with Extra Fast on light-power models at 7'. Fast action appears on two 6' and 6'6" casting models. Price point is $250 per rod across the lineup. Made in USA. The 15-model lineup (per input rod_count) spans 6'–7'6" in six length tiers.
Each power class is generally offered in both casting and spinning at 6'6" and 7', with casting-only at 6' and 7'6". UL and L models are generally Extra Fast or Mod Fast for pinpoint finesse delivery; ML and M models in Mod Fast at 7' cover general-purpose light-medium work. A 6' L casting Fast model works as the entry-length finesse baitcaster.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The shortest casting model at 6' L/fast. Serves tight-quarters finesse baitcasting, dock skipping, pitching small jigs under structure where a shorter blank gives precision and the fast action aids hooksets on light line.
The extra-fast action at 7' in L power distinguishes this from the 6'6" XF model. Longer blank aids casting distance with small lures on a baitcaster, suited to open-water finesse presentations like small swim jigs or wacky rigs on spinning-weight lures.
The longest model at 7'6" ML/MF. The extra length serves reaction-bait distance casting or longer pitching lanes, while the MF taper provides enough give to protect light line and keep hooks pinned through the fight.
