Traverse

The Old18 Traverse is a heavy-duty casting rod series from the small-batch US brand Old18. Based on the model specifications, this series is built for large-lure inshore and nearshore casting, think surf or rock fishing with heavy plugs, live bait rigs, or oversized jigs. The lineup covers a wide power range from Medium-Heavy to Extra-Heavy, all in the same 7'10" length with Moderate-Fast action. Old18 fits anglers who want boutique-level construction without importing Japanese gear.

All three models share the same 7'10" length and Mod-Fast action, constructed with what Old18 describes as premium graphite composites. The Mod-Fast taper loads more deeply than a Fast or Extra-Fast rod, useful when casting heavy or bulky lures where a stiffer tip would kill distance. The XH model's 50–100 lb line rating and 6–16 oz lure range is extreme, this is pier or heavy shore fishing territory for large coastal species, not conventional inshore work. The MH and H models occupy the more typical heavy inshore range.

The three rods are all 7'10" casting, differentiated purely by power: MH (TR-710MHC-MF, line 12–25 lb, lure 1–6 oz), H (TR-710HC-MF, line 12–30 lb, lure 2–6 oz), and XH (TR-710XHC-MF, line 50–100 lb, lure 6–16 oz). The jump from H to XH is abrupt, the XH's 50 lb minimum line rating suggests it is an entirely different use case, possibly made for sharks, large drum, or tarpon from shore instead of routine inshore casting.
