Fishing Rod Database

Author

A. Anders

Builder and editor of the Fishing Rod Database.

I build and maintain this database: the catalog, the spec normalization underneath it, and the guides and data studies published here. Most of that work is reading manufacturer spec tables in three or four unit systems and getting them into one shape you can actually compare.

On the water I'm a bait-finesse angler in South Carolina. I like short fiberglass rods and round baitcasting reels I've tuned myself, and my favorite fishing is a deep, wooded creek, flicking a Rapala F03 floating minnow under the overhangs for panfish and the bass that share the water with them. That is where my interest in light, short, slow rods comes from, and it is why the catalog goes as deep as it does into Japanese stream and BFS tackle.

How I work

  • Every number in a guide or post comes from the catalog, and the sample size sits next to it. When a result depends on how the data was filtered, the post says how.
  • Specs are taken from manufacturer catalogs and spec tables and converted into one set of units. When a value is inferred rather than printed by the manufacturer, the rod page says so.
  • No brand pays for placement. Some links earn an affiliate commission (Amazon, AliExpress), which covers hosting.
  • Corrections are welcome through the contact form, and a corrected page shows its updated date.
