About Ocean's Legacy
Ocean's Legacy is an Australian saltwater tackle brand founded in 2017 by Alan Koh. The brand describes its origin as "humble backyard beginnings" and today operates from Forrestdale in the Perth metropolitan area of Western Australia, with a New Zealand distributor in Auckland, a US store that ships from US-held stock, and a "World" store for other markets. Rods, jigs, casting lures, squid jigs, hooks, line and accessories are sold through independent tackle shops, through BCF, and direct.
The first products were slow pitch jigging rods and metal jigs. By January 2019 the website listed the Slow Element, the three Origin models, Adrenalin, Specialist and Dream Cast, with the Elementus announced for early 2019. Heavy offshore rods followed: Vengeance in 2021, Genesis and the Aggressor Long Cast in 2022, then Solist, Dream Cast II, Focal II and Insight BFS by 2026. The 2026 catalogue holds 43 rod listings across 18 families, covering slow pitch, deep and heavy jigging, offshore popping and plugging, land-based casting, surf, rock, drone, eging and light estuary work.
Most blanks are specified as Japanese Toray carbon, several at 40T, and most families use the brand's Cross Core Carbon weave (also written C3 or Cross Carbon Core). Fittings are Fuji throughout, including DPS, VSS and ECS seats, custom locking nuts and K-series guides in SiC or Alconite. The brand states that every rod is built in-house at its own facilities but names no factory location. Testing is credited to a named pro-tester group in Western Australia and to trips to the Cocos Keeling and Christmas Islands, the Montebellos, Fiji, Oman and New Zealand. All products carry a 12-month warranty; rods add a 12-month "Expeditor" replacement scheme.
What Ocean's Legacy is known for
Ocean's Legacy is known first for slow pitch jigging rods at mid-market prices. The Slow Element, its original rod, pairs a slow pitch tip with a stiff lower blank and is still sold at AUD 299.99, while the Elementus, Origin and Solist families extend the same concept up to titanium-fitted PE2 to PE4 rods and down to PE0.8 micro jigging. The second pillar is Western Australian land-based game: the Dream Cast, Specialist, Genesis and Backline families are built for long casts and heavy drag from rocks, beaches and drone deployment. Supporting lines include the Contact, Roven and Deep Contact jig ranges (to 3000 g), Keeling stickbaits and poppers, EGI Seeker squid jigs, Lancet hooks and Supreme braid. Testing at the Cocos Keeling Islands recurs across the heavy offshore families.
