The Shakespeare Alpha Bigwater Spinning Rod is an entry-level surf and big-water spinning rod built for anglers fishing beaches, jetties, piers, and surf zones without a premium price requirement. The series targets species accessible from shore: stripers, redfish, and other surf-running gamefish that require casting bait or heavy lures at distance. It is a practical choice for beginners and budget-conscious surf anglers. Blanks are tubular fiberglass, a deliberate construction choice that trades sensitivity for impact toughness and a forgiving, progressive bend suited to live-bait fishing and high-traffic environments.

Guides are stainless steel with ceramic inserts, compatible with both monofilament and braided lines. The reel seat is graphite; handles are EVA foam; a rubber fighting butt is fitted for braced leverage. The rod is built to take abuse in saltwater surf environments. The lineup consists of two 2-piece spinning models in MH power: the 9-foot ALPHABWSP90 (line 15–25 lb) for jetty and inlet use where shorter reach suffices, and the 12-foot ALPHABWSP12 (line 20–40 lb) for open surf where casting distance is the primary need.
