Lightning Rod Trolling
Budget freshwater trolling rod with extended handle for rod-holder walleye and salmon work
The Berkley Lightning Rod Trolling is a dedicated trolling rod for freshwater anglers made for walleye, salmon, and trout from a boat. The design prioritizes withstanding sustained pressure from rod holders and fighting larger fish on the troll, with a rubber shrink-wrap extended handle for leverage and a double-locking reel seat to manage the torque of a loaded rod in a holder. It is sold as a budget-accessible entry into trolling-specific rod design.
The blank is 24-ton multi-modulus graphite composite with a Moderate action suited to absorbing rod-tip movement during trolling and reducing lure action disruption. The extended handle is finished in rubber shrink wrap instead of cork or EVA, a specification common to holder-use trolling rods. Stainless steel guides. The rod is rated for 15–40 lb line and 2–6 oz lures at 8'6", giving it range for both in-line planer and standard snap-weight trolling presentations.
