The Falcon Coastal Clearwater is a dedicated inshore saltwater rod series designed for anglers fishing the Gulf Coast, Atlantic, and Pacific inshore environments for species such as speckled trout, redfish, flounder, snook, tarpon, and striped bass. The series spans from light wading presentations to stout tarpon-class rods, covering the full inshore spectrum in both spinning and casting configurations. Blanks use Falcon's proprietary multi-directional carbon fiber, which the company describes as providing increased sensitivity, crisper actions, and greater torsion resistance versus conventional unidirectional layups.
This results in improved accuracy and casting distance. All models are fitted with 100% Fuji K-Frame tangle-free guides, upgraded in 2020. Blanks are identified by Falcon's in-house flex/power rating system. The series retails in the $149–$185 range. The 13 models include 4 casting and 9 spinning rods. Casting rods run 6'7"–7'6" in ML through MH, covering trout finesse, spoon/plug casting, and all-around cranking. Spinning rods span 7'–8' and hold the widest spread, from the 7' ML bucktail/light-jig stick (SWS-7ML) through the 8' XH tarpon special (SWS-8XH) rated 25–40 lb and 3/4–3 oz.
Each model carries a descriptive nickname from the manufacturer reflecting its primary application.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Named 'Ultimate Trout' by Falcon. Shorter ML casting rod tuned for the small jigs and topwater poppers common in speckled trout fishing. Moderate action loads smoothly for distance on light presentations.
Named 'Spoon/Plug.' MH fast taper for throwing spoons and plugs at redfish and other tidal species. Stiff enough for bull reds but provides enough tip for long spoon casts.
Named 'Bucktails.' Light action wading rod for bucktail jigs and small soft plastics on spinning gear. MS (moderate-slow) taper gives the blank a deep bend suited to the steady retrieve of jig tails.
Named 'Go To.' H power fast-action spinning rod suited to a broad range of inshore applications, heavy jigs, large plugs, and structure fishing. The workhorse of the spinning lineup per Falcon's own designation.
Named 'Pass Rod.' Extra length for fishing passes, inlets, and jetties where casting distance is critical. H power handles large plugs and jigs in current. Carries a $100 surcharge due to length shipping requirements.
Named 'The King/Tarpon Special.' Heaviest model in the series. 25–40 lb line and 3 oz lure capacity for tarpon, large king mackerel, and heavy offshore inshore presentations. Also carries a shipping surcharge.
