The Falcon Expert is a precision-tuned bass rod series made for tournament anglers and serious recreational fishers who want technique-specific actions at mid-premium prices ($249–$270). Redesigned from the ground up for 2025, each model carries a proper name tied to a technique, Jerkbait, Mansfield, Toledo Special, Bayou, Amistad, and is developed in consultation with Falcon's pro staff instead of configured as a general-purpose option. The series covers bass fishing from finesse spinning to heavy Texas-style power fishing. Blanks use CrossMatch, Falcon's multi-layer cross-directional carbon composite that reduces material while increasing resistance to torsional deflection, reducing blank twist during the cast for improved accuracy.
Components are exclusively Fuji: tangle-free K-frame guides with Fazlite ring inserts and blank-through Fuji reel seats that transmit blank vibration directly to the hand. Split-grip handles on most models; full grip on the longer 7'3"–7'8" cranking and swimjig configurations. Flex ratings span slow (EC-5C-178 Toledo Special) through extra-fast (not used here), with moderate and moderate-fast profiles covering the crankbait-heavy end. The 14-model lineup is 11 casting and 3 spinning. Casting power runs from M (EC-4) through XH (EC-8). The EC-4 models (M power) handle jerkbaits and lighter cranks; EC-5 (MH) covers topwater through spinnerbait; EC-6 (H) handles pitching and football jigs; EC-7 (H, fast) serves frogs and flipping; EC-8-174 (XH, fast) addresses heavy Texas rigs and swimbaits.
Spinning rods (ES-3, ES-4) provide ML and M options for drop shot, finesse jig, and shakey head presentations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Named "Jerkbait", 6'8" M power with moderate (not fast) action for proper jerkbait cadence. The slower flex loads on the pause and keeps fish attached on treble hooks during head shakes.
"Drop Shot/Rig", the lightest spinning model at ML power; 6-12lb line and 1/8-3/8oz for finesse applications. The only spinning rod with a $269.99 price, likely reflecting the longer split-grip blank.
"Amistad XH", heaviest rod in the series; XH power on 20-40lb handles heavy Texas rigs and large swimbaits. Fast action maintains sensitivity for soft plastic bites despite the stiff backbone.
"Toledo Special", the only slow-action rod in the series at 7'8" MH. Named for Darold Gleason's BASS Toledo Open win. Slow flex suits deep-running crankbaits and buzzbaits where a soft tip improves depth and treble retention.
