The Falcon Slab series is a dedicated panfish and crappie rod lineup from Falcon Rods, spanning an unusually wide range of lengths (5' to 15') to cover the full spectrum of crappie techniques: dock shooting and close-quarters jigging on the short end through spider-rigging and long-line trolling on the long end. Aerospace-grade carbon blanks are used throughout, producing rods described as feather-light with strong sensitivity. This is outside the bass series lane; the construction and power ratings are calibrated entirely for crappie and panfish.
Blanks are 100% graphite with a high-modulus construction, stainless steel frame guides, and cork handles. The series is coherent in its panfish focus but internally diverse: short models (5'–7') are ultralight to light power for casting jigs and small presentations; long models (10'–15') step up to medium and medium-heavy for managing multiple lines or working larger water. Action designations vary, the 7' SLS-7L carries slow action (unusual, suited for crappie sensitivity and soft-mouth hooksets), while others are medium or medium-slow.
The lineup covers six distinct use cases: the 5' UL (SLS-UL-15) for tight crappie docks or ice fishing proxies; the 6' L (SLS-1L-16) as a general-purpose panfish model; the 7' L slow-action (SLS-7L) optimized for bite detection and soft-mouthed fish; and then the long-pole tier, 10' M (SLS-10M) for vertical jigging and bobber rigs, 13' MH (SLS-13MH) and 15' MH (SLS-15MH) for spider rigging or dock shooting from a boat.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Slow action in a 7' L-power rod is intentional for crappie, the parabolic bend transmits light bites without tearing the soft mouth on hookset. Lure floor of 1/64oz accommodates the smallest tube jigs and marabou jigs crappie anglers favor.
Bridge model between the casting range and the long-pole trolling models. Medium-slow action at 10' suits vertical jigging under docks or working bobber rigs at range. M power handles larger crappie and occasional bass incidentals.
specialized for spider rigging, multiple lines fanned from rod holders. MH power at 13' manages braid under trolling loads and controls slab crappie at boat-side. Line rating up to 30lb reflects braid use.
Longest production crappie rod in the Falcon catalog. Extra reach for long-lining or positioning lures far from the boat. Same specs as SLS-13MH aside from length. Requires a rod holder system, outside the hand-held option lane.
