The Compre Salmon/Steelhead Casting series covers four two-piece conventional casting models ranging from 8'6" to 9'6". The two shorter models are designated for steelhead and carry medium or medium-heavy power with lure weight ratings starting at 3/8 oz, fitting drift fishing, float fishing, and casting plugs or spinners in rivers. The two 9-foot models are built for salmon applications with heavy power and a 10-30 lb mono rating.
All four rods use a Fuji reel seat, AAA cork handles, and sloped-frame SeaGuide guides fitted with Zirconia inserts. The inserts add surface hardness and durability at the guide ring, which matters when running heavier lines against sustained river current or when fighting large fish repeatedly over a season. MSRP is $99.99 across the series.
Grip lengths on the 8'6" models measure 13.8 inches, while the 9-foot rods get a 13.8-inch grip paired with a 3.5-inch foregrip, accommodating a two-handed fighting stance during longer battles with heavier salmon.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
8'6" two-piece, medium power. Rated 8-12 lb mono and 3/8-3/4 oz lure weight. The lightest-duty rod in the casting lineup, well matched to steelhead drift fishing or float presentations with lighter jigs and egg clusters in smaller to mid-sized rivers.
8'6" two-piece, medium-heavy power. Rated 8-17 lb mono and 3/8-1 oz lure weight. Adds backbone over the M model for heavier drift rigs, larger spinners, and situations where more control is needed during the fight. A practical step up when steelhead average larger or flows are heavier.
9'0" two-piece, heavy power. Rated 10-30 lb mono with no lure weight listed, indicating primary use with bait rather than hardware. The 9-foot length aids casting distance and line management in larger river systems when targeting salmon. The 3.5-inch foregrip supports a two-handed grip during sustained battles.
9'6" two-piece, heavy power. Shares the 10-30 lb mono rating with the 90H2 but adds 6 inches of length for additional casting reach and improved line control at distance. Suited to salmon fishing in wide pools and tailouts where presentation range is a factor.
