The Compre Salmon/Steelhead Float is part of Shimano's Compre series, a line built around technique-specific actions at an accessible price point. All three float models feature sloped-frame SeaGuide guides with Zirconia inserts, which add hardness at the guide surface and reduce friction during long drifts under a bobber. Handles are AAA cork with a Fuji reel seat, and the blanks are described as sensitive enough to register subtle takes through float contact.

The 10'6" model (CPSSL106ML2) is the shortest and most versatile of the three, using a Moderate Fast action in Medium Light power. It handles 6–12 lb mono and up to 5/8 oz, giving it enough backbone for larger steelhead floats while retaining enough tip flex for casting lighter presentations. The two longer rods - 11'6" and 12'6" - both use Slow action and Light power, a configuration suited for reading subtle current edges and maintaining extended drifts with very light floats and terminal weight.

The 12'6" model carries the longest grip at 12.7 inches and the widest lure rating topping out at 5/16 oz, while the 11'6" is rated to only 1/4 oz. All three break into two pieces and are priced at $99.99, placing them in the entry-level to mid-range float rod category for salmon and steelhead anglers.

A closer look at notable models.

CPSSL106ML2 Float · 10'6" · ML · MF action

10'6" Medium Light, Moderate Fast action. Rated 6–12 lb mono and 1/8–5/8 oz. The most versatile of the three float models - the faster taper handles a broader range of float sizes and adds sensitivity for detecting takes; a practical starting length for anglers new to float fishing.

CPSSL116L2 Float · 11'6" · L · S action

11'6" Light, Slow action. Rated 4–6 lb mono and 1/32–1/4 oz. The Slow taper loads throughout the blank for delicate presentations with small floats and minimal terminal weight; the added length over the 10'6" improves mending ability on wide current seams.

CPSSL126L2 Float · 12'6" · L · S action

12'6" Light, Slow action. Rated 4–8 lb mono and 1/32–5/16 oz. The longest model in the float series with the largest grip at 12.7 inches. The extra reach suits larger rivers where extended float drifts require more line management and float-to-angler distance.
