COMPRE SALMON/STEELHEAD MICHIGAN
9'6" Michigan-handle steelhead rod with Fuji seat, AAA cork, and Zirconia guides for tributary
The Compre Salmon/Steelhead Michigan is a single-model series within Shimano's broader Compre Salmon/Steelhead lineup, specifically configured for Michigan-handle-style fishing. The rod measures 9'6" in a 2-piece build with medium-light power and a moderate action, rated for 4-10 lb mono and lure weights between 1/8 and 3/8 oz. A Fuji reel seat and AAA cork handle provide the component foundation, while sloped-frame SeaGuide guides with Zirconia inserts handle line management.
The Michigan handle configuration distinguishes this model from the standard spinning or float variants in the Compre series. It features a 5-inch rear grip and an 8-inch foregrip, proportions consistent with the two-handed extended-reach casting style common to Great Lakes tributary steelhead fishing. Zirconia inserts offer increased hardness relative to aluminum oxide, reducing groove wear under sustained use with heavier running lines.
The 9'6" length provides adequate reach for mending line in current-heavy tributary scenarios typical of Michigan steelhead rivers. The 1/8-3/8 oz lure weight range suits drift presentations using split shot rigs, small spinners, or light jigs. The Compre series occupies a mid-tier position in Shimano's rod catalog, delivering quality components at a production-grade price.
