The original Grappler Type LJ is a four-model light jigging series combining spinning and casting rods at 6'3" in two power classes. Blanks use Spiral X and Hi-Power X construction, providing enhanced compressional and torsional rigidity over standard blanks. The series is described as 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. Fuji Alconite guides with SiC tips are fitted on all models.
All four models are 6'3" one-piece with EVA grips. Spinning models carry lure weights of 40-160g for the M and 50-180g for the MH, on max 20lb and max 30lb PowerPro respectively. Casting models rate slightly higher: 50-160g for the M and 60-180g for the MH, on the same line ratings. This generation precedes the redesigned LJ Cast and Spin series.

6'3" Medium casting, 50-160g lure, max 20lb line, moderate-fast. Casting version of the M model with a bottom-range starting weight of 50g compared to 40g on the spinning counterpart. Suited for conventional-reel light jigging on nearshore grounds.
6'3" Medium Heavy casting, 60-180g lure, max 30lb line, moderate-fast. The heaviest casting model in the original LJ series. The 60g minimum jig weight reflects the stiffer MH blank; max 30lb line handles PE2-3 on conventional jigging reels.
6'3" Medium spinning, 40-160g lure, max 20lb line, moderate-fast. Light-jig spinning model for nearshore Current Sniper-style presentations on PE1-2. The M power blank suits finesse jig work over live bottom or reef edges.
6'3" Medium Heavy spinning, 50-180g lure, max 30lb line, moderate-fast. Steps up from the M spinning model for slightly heavier jigs and larger target species. Max 30lb line accommodates PE2-3 for added abrasion resistance over structure.
