The Outlier is a dedicated technical swimbait casting rod series built for anglers who fish large swimbaits as a primary tactic. Shimano constructed these blanks with both Spiral X and Hi-Power X manufacturing processes, which wrap carbon tape in opposing diagonal layers to resist torsional twist and compressional flex during long casts with heavy lures. The combined effect is a blank with high rigidity across the full length, maintaining accuracy when throwing baits in the 1-14 oz range.
Components are chosen for heavy-duty deployment. Double-foot Fuji K-Frame guides with SiC inserts handle thick braid and monofilament without groove wear. The CI4+ carbon fiber-infused reel seat keeps weight down while providing a secure reel lock. All six models use custom spiral EVA handles with heat-wrapped exteriors, a grip design that distributes pressure across the palm during extended retrieves with large, water-resistant baits.
The six-model lineup spans 7'4" to 8'0" and covers medium-heavy through double extra-heavy power ratings. The shortest and lightest-rated model handles swimbaits from 1/2 to 2 oz, while the heaviest 8'0" XXH handles baits from 6 to 14 oz. All models are two-piece except the 7'4" MH, which is one piece.

The only one-piece model in the series at 7'4" with medium-heavy power. Rated for 1/2-2 oz lures on 10-20 lb mono or 30-50 lb braid. The shorter, stiffer one-piece blank suits mid-range glide baits and medium-size hard swimbaits where direct load transfer and no-joint continuity are priorities.
Two-piece at 7'9" with medium-heavy power, rated for 1-4 oz lures and 10-20 lb mono. The added length over the OUC74MH extends casting distance for larger paddletail swimbaits and glide baits in the 1-3 oz class. Pack construction allows breakdown for travel.
Two-piece at 7'10" with heavy power, rated 3-6 oz on 12-25 lb mono or 40-65 lb braid. Steps up to heavier hard swimbaits and large soft plastic swimbaits rigged on weighted heads. Length and power suit open-water big-bait applications where distance and leverage matter.
Two-piece at 7'11" with heavy power, rated 1-5 oz on 14-30 lb mono or 50-80 lb braid. The wide lure weight window - 1 to 5 oz - makes this the most versatile model in the series, covering a broad swimbait range from lighter finesse swims up through mid-size hard baits.
Two-piece at 8'0" with extra-heavy power, rated 4-9 oz on 14-30 lb mono or 50-80 lb braid. Targets large hard swimbaits and heavy soft swimbaits rigged on 2-3 oz heads. The 8-foot length aids in long-distance presentations and provides additional leverage when loading the blank under heavy bait weight.
Two-piece at 8'0" with double extra-heavy power, the heaviest model in the lineup. Rated for 6-14 oz lures on 16-35 lb mono or 65-100 lb braid. Designed for the largest hard swimbaits and heavy multi-jointed big baits. Line ratings indicate this rod is intended for heavy fluorocarbon or monofilament, not braid-only applications.
