The Shimano Poison Adrena is a high-end Japanese bass series, in casting and finesse spinning, designed for tournament-level and technical freshwater bass anglers. It sits in Shimano's upper performance tier, based on Spiral X Core blank construction with Toray Nanoalloy technology, the combination providing measurable gains in torsional and compressional rigidity over standard Spiral X blanks. The result is a rod that transmits subtle lure feedback accurately while remaining light enough for all-day use. Primary techniques span finesse presentations through punching cover, depending on model.
Blank construction is Spiral X Core (carbon tape wrapping with nanoalloy resin) paired with Shimano X-Guide and Fuji SiC guides, a CI4+ reel seat integrated into a Full Monocoque Handle that transfers vibration directly to the palm without dampening from a separate grip assembly. The monocoque handle saves weight over traditional split-grip builds at this length range. The 2024 "B" designation indicates the updated generation with the full Spiral X Core treatment. All 10 models are casting (baitcasting) format, 6'10" to 7'6", covering L through H power.
The concentration of models in the 7'0"–7'3" range reflects Japanese competitive bass fishing norms. The PAD1610LBFSB is a finesse-specific BFS entry (light power, 1/8–3/8 oz) for drop-shot and light jig work. PAD174HLMB at 7'4" H power with a 1/2–2 oz range handles swimbaits and larger flipping rigs. PAD176HB at 7'6" is the longest, heaviest entry, oriented toward heavy cover.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 15 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
6'10" Medium Light solid-tip spinning rod. Handles 3-6 lb and 3/32-3/8 oz. The lighter solid-tip companion to the PAD2610MPSB; drops down to 3 lb mono for delicate strolling techniques on ultra-light line, with the Taftec tip providing feel without excessive blank stiffness.
6'10" Medium Plus solid-tip spinning rod. Rated 4-8 lb and 1/8-1/2 oz. One of two Taftec Infinity solid-tip models; the M+ power with solid tip is engineered for strolling presentations where the tip must flex freely to transmit subtle lure action on light line.
6'10" BFS (baitfinesse system) casting rod. Rated 6-12 lb and 1/8-3/8 oz. Built to pair with light-spool baitcasting reels for finesse casting applications traditionally relegated to spinning gear; the lighter power rating and short length suit skipping docks and pitching small jigs.
6'10" Medium casting rod. Handles 8-16 lb and 1/4-3/4 oz. A compact medium-power casting blank for pitching, flipping, and mid-range presentations in confined spaces; the shorter length increases accuracy in tight cover compared to 7-foot counterparts.
7'0" Light Plus spinning rod. Rated 3-6 lb and 3/32-7/16 oz. A standard carbon fast-action blank stepping up slightly in length from the 6'10" solid-tip models; the Light Plus designation adds marginal backbone over a standard L rating for slightly heavier finesse applications.
7'0" Medium spinning rod. Handles 5-10 lb and 3/16-1/2 oz. The most versatile model in the spinning lineup; medium power at 7'0" covers a broad range of finesse applications from drop shot to wacky worm to light jig fishing on fluorocarbon or braid leaders.
7'0" Medium glass casting rod. Rated 8-16 lb and 1/4-1 oz. One of two glass-composite models in the lineup; the glass construction slows tip recovery for crankbait and bladed swimbait work, reducing the tendency to pull hooks on reaction baits.
7'0" Medium Heavy casting rod. Handles 10-20 lb and 3/8-1 oz. A workhorse 7-foot MH for jigs, Texas rigs, and hard swimbaits; the carbon construction delivers quick hook-set energy and fighting backbone across the broad midrange power category.
7'2" Medium Light spinning rod. Rated 4-8 lb and 1/8-7/16 oz. The longest model in the series; the additional length over the 7'0" M increases casting distance for long-range finesse presentations and provides extra leverage on fish at distance with light line.
7'2" Medium casting rod. Rated 8-16 lb and 1/4-3/4 oz. A versatile medium-power blank at an extended length for added casting distance on jerkbaits, topwater walkers, and medium-body crankbaits where a 7'0" can feel limiting.
7'2" Medium Heavy glass casting rod. Handles 10-20 lb and 3/8-1 1/2 oz. The second glass-composite model; the MH power combined with glass taper suits larger crankbaits, big swimbaits on slow retrieves, and other applications where a forgiving blank protects against thrown lures.
7'2" Heavy casting rod. Rated 12-25 lb and 1/2-1 1/2 oz. Heavy-power carbon blank at 7'2" for jig punching, big swimbaits, and heavy flipping applications requiring both reach and sufficient backbone to drive heavy hooks through thick cover.
7'3" Medium Heavy casting rod. Handles 10-20 lb and 3/8-1 oz. An unusual 7'3" length splits the difference between 7'2" and 7'4" models; designed for specific techniques requiring extra reach over a standard 7'0" MH while retaining medium-heavy power for versatility.
7'4" Heavy casting rod with long-reach designation. Rated 12-25 lb and 1/2-2 oz. The highest lure ceiling in the series at 2 oz and the longest model in the heavy category; built for big swimbaits, punch rigs in vegetation, and long-distance heavy presentations where reach and power both matter.
7'6" Heavy casting rod. Handles 12-25 lb and 1/2-1 1/2 oz. The longest model in the casting lineup; maximizes leverage and casting range for heavy applications including deep-water jigging, long-range flipping, and pitching large profile lures to distant targets.
