SPEEDMASTER SURF SPINNING
Value-priced surf spinning rods, 9' to 12', Fuji guides, Moderate Fast action for lures and bait
The Speedmaster Surf Spinning series positions itself at the value end of Shimano's surf lineup, delivering a functional set of features at a consistent $169.99 price point across all six models. Blanks are designed for long casts with enough backbone to handle fish and tides in typical coastal surf. Fuji Alconite guides and diamond-wrap grips are standard, providing a component package that holds up to saltwater use without the weight penalty of heavier guide frames.
The lineup runs from 9 feet to 12 feet in two-piece construction, covering medium through heavy power ratings. Actions are primarily Moderate Fast, with one Moderate option at 10'6" and one Fast option in the 12-foot Heavy model. This range makes the series workable across lure presentations from lighter plug casting at shorter ranges up to heavy-lure bait soaking at distance.
Lure weight ratings progress from 1/2-3 oz on the 9-foot model up to 2-6 oz on the longer rods, giving the angler a consistent upper range with the lower end tightening as blanks get heavier. The 12-foot Heavy fast-action model stands apart from the rest of the lineup as the most specialized tool, intended for heavier lures and surf conditions where the other MH models may feel underpowered.

Model notes
All 6 models9'0" Medium Moderate Fast, 1/2-3 oz lure weight. Entry-level length in the Speedmaster spinning lineup, suited for calmer inshore surf or jetty fishing where casting distance is secondary to lure control. The lightest lure weight floor in the series makes it the most versatile for finesse presentations.
10'0" Medium Moderate Fast, 3/4-4 oz lure weight. Adds a foot of length over the 9-footer for additional casting arc and reach. The upper end of the lure range steps up to 4 oz, opening the door to heavier metal jigs and chunk bait rigs. A practical general-use surf spinning rod for open beach work.
10'6" Medium Heavy Moderate action, 1-5 oz lure weight. The only full Moderate taper in the spinning lineup. The slower bend loads more thoroughly for heavier lures and slower cadence presentations. Steps up to Medium Heavy power for additional lifting capacity when fish run hard in current.
11'0" Medium Heavy Moderate Fast, 2-6 oz lure weight. Moves into the mid-heavy class with added length for distance casting. Covers the 2-6 oz range that handles most surf metal and chunk bait applications on exposed coastlines. The 23-inch grip supports two-hand casting technique.
12'0" Medium Heavy Moderate Fast, 2-6 oz lure weight. Matches the same power and lure rating as the 11-foot MH but gains a foot for longer casts. The 24-inch grip accommodates full OTG-style delivery. Choice between this and the SPMS110MH2 comes down to the target distance and how much rod the angler can manage comfortably.
12'0" Heavy Fast, 2-6 oz lure weight. The most powerful model in the Speedmaster spinning series. Fast taper and Heavy power set it apart from the other 12-footer for situations requiring hard hook sets at range or fish-fighting in heavy surge. Shares the lure weight range but handles the upper end of that range more authoritatively.
