Shimano built the Teramar NE spinning series specifically for Northeast inshore and nearshore fishing. The blanks use TC4 construction, a multi-axis carbon fiber layering process that reduces weight while maintaining the torsional rigidity needed when fighting striped bass, bluefish, and fluke in tidal currents and rocky structure. SeaGuide zirconia guides, a Fuji reel seat, and EVA grips run the length of each model.
The lineup covers 6'6" through 7'0" in Medium Heavy through Heavy power, with action choices spanning Moderate Fast, Fast, and Extra Fast. Line ratings run from 10-20 lb on the lighter models up to 20-40 lb on the 7'0" Heavy. EVA handles with grip lengths of 10 to 14 inches accommodate different fighting stances without adding unnecessary weight.
Six models in the spinning series address the common technique spread of the Northeast: working soft plastics on jig heads through rips, casting poppers and swim shads from the beach or a boat, and handling live-lining bunker or mackerel for larger fish. Power and action combinations are matched to those scenarios rather than to a single-purpose design.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
6'6" Medium Heavy at Moderate Fast action. Rated 15-30 lb mono with a 10-inch EVA grip. The shorter length and softer tip entry suit boat fishing in close quarters or surf work where a controlled load on heavier presentations is preferred over a fast-tip response.
7'0" Heavy power, Fast action, 20-40 lb mono. The heaviest spinning model in the NE series with a 14-inch EVA grip for leverage during prolonged fights. Handles large soft baits, heavy bucktails, and live-lining for larger stripers or cobia moving through Northeast corridors.
7'0" Medium power, Fast action, 10-20 lb mono. The standard go-to configuration for working soft plastics and mid-weight lures around structure. The Fast tip provides quick energy transfer for hooksets on braided setups targeting stripers and weakfish.
7'0" Medium Heavy, Fast action, 15-30 lb mono. The 12.5-inch EVA grip reflects a fighting-oriented design for larger Northeast gamefish. Covers swim shads, heavier bucktails, and live bait at moderate tip speed.
7'0" Medium power, Extra Fast action, 10-20 lb mono. Same length and line class as TMSE70MB but with a stiffer tip section for maximum sensitivity when feeling subtle structure bites and for sharp hooksets on light artificials.
7'0" Medium Heavy, Extra Fast action, 15-30 lb mono. Shares the 12.5-inch grip of the TMSE70MHB but adds a stiffer tip for faster lure registration and sharper hooksets. Suited to working metals, heavier plastics, and surface lures.
