The Teramar PX SE (Southeast) series is Shimano's dedicated casting and spinning rod lineup for Southeast inshore and nearshore fisheries, spanning seatrout, redfish, snook, and tarpon applications. Blanks are built with Hi-Power X construction, which wraps diagonally wound carbon tape across the blank's outermost layer in an X-pattern tuned by width, angle, and placement for the intended species and power rating. The result is reduced blank twist under casting or fighting load, increased rigidity, and sharper power transmission. A CI4+ reel seat complements the blank; CI4+ is a carbon-fiber-reinforced Shimano material 2.5 times more rigid than earlier CI4 formulations, reducing seat weight while maintaining firm reel fixation and improving sensitivity.
Guides are SeaGuide Zirconia models throughout the series, chosen for corrosion resistance and low friction. Grip materials vary by power class: lighter models use AA cork and EVA combinations; heavier models (MH and above) use full EVA for a more secure grip in wet conditions. Models span 6'8" to 8'0" and cover extra-fast and fast actions from medium-light through extra-extra-heavy power.
The lineup is divided into casting and spinning models. Casting rods include extra-fast and fast-action options in medium-light through heavy power, with heavier models extending to 20-40 lb mono and 3/4-2 oz lure range for larger inshore species. Spinning rods add an 8'0" XXH model rated 20-40 lb mono and 2-5 oz for heavy nearshore work such as tarpon. The 13 rods in this series provide a model for essentially every common Southeast inshore application.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
6'8" extra-fast medium-light casting rod, 8-15 lb mono, 1/4-3/4 oz. Compact casting model aimed at finesse inshore work, dock fishing, or areas with tight casting lanes. Extra-fast tip loads quickly for short to medium presentations. Cork and EVA grip. $269.99.
6'8" extra-fast medium-light spinning rod, 6-12 lb mono, 1/8-3/4 oz. The lightest spinning option in the lineup, suited for finesse inshore presentations with light jig heads and small plastics. Extra-fast tip enhances feel on subtle bites. Cork and EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" extra-fast medium casting rod, 10-17 lb mono, 3/8-1 oz. The primary all-around casting model for redfish and seatrout with moderate to heavier soft plastics and swimbaits. Extra-fast action provides strong hooksets and immediate blank recovery. Cork and EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" extra-fast medium spinning rod, 8-15 lb mono, 1/4-5/8 oz. Lighter lure ceiling than the TPES70M fast model; targets seatrout and similar species with lighter soft plastics where extra-fast tip response improves feel. Cork and EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" fast heavy spinning rod, 15-30 lb mono, 1/2-2 oz. Heavier spinning option for larger Southeast species or fishing heavier structure where line class needs to increase. Fast action aids in hookset with heavier line and lures. Full EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" fast medium spinning rod, 8-15 lb mono, 3/8-1 oz. Core all-around spinning model for seatrout, flounder, and redfish. Fast action and medium power handle a wide range of soft plastics and jig heads in typical inshore depths. Cork and EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" extra-fast medium-heavy spinning rod, 12-25 lb mono, 1/2-1.5 oz. Mid-lineup spinning option that bridges finesse and power applications. Extra-fast action with medium-heavy power handles heavier jig heads in deeper water or wind. Full EVA grip. $269.99.
7'0" extra-fast medium-heavy casting rod, 12-25 lb mono, 1/2-1.5 oz. Steps up to heavier jigs and larger inshore presentations. Suited for snook around structure or larger redfish in heavier cover. Full EVA grip for wet-condition control. $289.99.
7'0" extra-fast heavy casting rod, 20-40 lb mono, 3/4-2 oz. Built for large inshore and nearshore species demanding maximum lifting power. The extra-fast taper gives instantaneous hookset at the tip while the heavy blank provides the reserves to move fish. Full EVA grip. $289.99.
7'6" fast heavy casting rod, 20-40 lb mono, 1/2-2 oz. Longer blank adds casting range and reach compared to the 7'0" H model. The fast (not extra-fast) action provides a slightly more progressive load for heavier lures and longer casts in open water nearshore situations. Full EVA grip. $289.99.
7'6" extra-fast medium-heavy spinning rod, 12-25 lb mono, 1/2-1.5 oz. Extended length over the 7'0" MH for additional casting distance on open flats or wading situations. Same power and lure ratings as the TPESX70MH with improved reach. Full EVA grip. $269.99.
8'0" extra-fast extra-heavy spinning rod, 15-30 lb mono, 3/4-3 oz. Heavy spinning model for large inshore and nearshore species. Extra-fast taper delivers strong hooksets at range while the extra-heavy power handles the sustained pressure of hard-fighting fish. Full EVA grip. $289.99.
8'0" fast extra-extra-heavy spinning rod, 20-40 lb mono, 2-5 oz. The heaviest model in the series; intended for tarpon and large nearshore gamefish. The 8-foot length increases leverage and casting distance for heavy presentations. Large EVA grips with extended rear section for two-handed fighting. $289.99.
