The Teramar XX SW Casting series sits at the top of Shimano's inshore saltwater casting rod lineup, built around a dual blank-reinforcement system combining Spiral X and Hi-Power X construction. Spiral X uses three layers of carbon tape wound in opposing diagonal directions around a vertical fiber core, which raises both compression and torsional rigidity without a weight penalty. Hi-Power X adds an outer layer of diagonally wrapped carbon tape, fine-tuned by winding angle and placement to sharpen action and increase overall strength. Together, these two technologies produce a blank that resists twist under load, transmits strikes clearly, and loads cleanly on the cast.
Components are matched to the blank's performance level. Grips combine AA cork and EVA for comfort and grip retention in wet conditions. Guides are Fuji FazLite models, which run lighter than conventional Fuji frames and contribute to the rod's responsiveness across its length. The single-piece construction eliminates ferrule-related flex variations.
Four models cover the inshore casting range from 6'6" to 7'0". The two medium-power models share a 8-14 lb mono / 1/4-5/8 oz lure range suited to speckled trout, redfish, and flounder work with jerkbaits, soft plastics, and topwaters. The 7'0" medium-light model steps down to 6-12 lb mono and a 1/4-1/2 oz lure range for finesse presentations and lighter inshore species.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
6'6" fast-action medium casting rod rated 8-14 lb mono and 1/4-5/8 oz. The shortest model in the series, it delivers quick tip recovery and works well in tight quarters or from kayaks where a longer blank would be unwieldy. Fuji FazLite guides and AA cork/EVA split grip. $309.99.
6'9" fast-action medium casting rod rated 8-14 lb mono and 1/4-5/8 oz. Sits between the 6'6" and 7'0" models, adding a few inches of casting arc and reach without going to a full 7-foot blank. Identical action and power to the TXSC66M, useful where moderate extra length matters. $319.99.
7'0" fast-action medium casting rod rated 8-14 lb mono and 1/4-5/8 oz. Full 7-foot length in medium power provides maximum casting distance and lever advantage for longer shots across flats or open water. Shares lure and line ratings with the 6'6" and 6'9" medium models. $319.99.
7'0" fast-action medium-light casting rod rated 6-12 lb mono and 1/4-1/2 oz. The lighter power rating in this series; suited for finesse techniques, smaller soft plastics, and species requiring a more delicate presentation. Drops the upper lure ceiling to 1/2 oz compared to 5/8 oz on the medium models. $319.99.
