The Flats Bastard is specialized for ultra-finesse inshore fishing on shallow saltwater flats. Target angler is someone pursuing wary, sight-fished species, tailing redfish, bonefish, speckled trout, in clear, calm water where a heavy presentation spooks fish. It sits in the space between a light spinning rod and a fly rod, designed to present lures as light as 1/32 oz with minimal surface disturbance and delivery noise. Blanks are a 40/30-ton graphite blend with a solid graphite tip section.

The solid tip extends load-sensing sensitivity into the lightest lure weights while absorbing shock on strikes that might otherwise break standard hollow tips. Extended blank design shifts the balance point and loading arc toward fly-rod casting mechanics. Construction is single-piece; no ferrule-related action compromise. Priced at $250, it sits in the mid-premium inshore bracket. The lineup runs three spinning models at 7'2", 7'6", and 8'8".

All three are spinning configuration; Casting variants is absent. Length progression gives options from technical close-quarters presentation to longer-range flats work. The 8'8" (TF8076) is notably long for an inshore finesse rod and likely suited to wade fishing scenarios requiring reach. The 7'2" (TF8074) is the close-quarters option. The 7'6" (TF8079) splits the difference.

A closer look at notable models.

TF8074 Spinning · 7'2"

Shortest model in the lineup. Better suited for boat-deck or kayak use where rod length overhead is restricted. Still carries the full solid-tip construction; true short-range technical option.

TF8076 Spinning · 8'8"

At 8'8" this is the longest of the three, unusual length for an inshore finesse rod. Suited to wade-fishing open flats where reach and line elevation above surface disturbance matter. The extra length also loads more deeply on lighter lures, aiding distance on 1/32 oz presentations.
