The Huerco GT (Grand Traveling) series is Huerco's flagship pack rod line, made for anglers who want a travel rod capable of serving as a primary fishing tool instead of a compromise. The GT406-5S is made for stream trout and area (managed pond) trout fishing with an XUL rating suited to small fish on light line; the GT906-6S addresses open-water situations, river mouths, lakeshores, and surf, where a long-casting medium-power rod is needed. Both rods are designed for anglers who travel to fishing destinations and do not want to sacrifice rod quality for portability. Blanks are carbon-primary with guide and parts specifications tailored individually per model.
The series uses SiC guide rings throughout; the GT906-6S adds titanium-frame guides on the tip and second section for reduced weight and improved sensitivity at the business end. Joint systems combine reverse-parallel (gyaku-nami) and socket (inrou) joining methods to produce a taper that does not telegraph the multi-piece construction. The GT406-5S features a natural birdseye wood reel seat with silver original metal hardware and cork/rubber grip, a deliberate aesthetic choice consistent with traditional Japanese stream rod design. JDM brand; sold primarily in Japan with prices of ¥48,400 (GT406-5S) and ¥53,900 (GT906-6S) as of early 2025.
The two-model lineup spans the extremes of the series: a 4'6" UL 5-piece (packed length 333 mm) for small water, and a 9'6" M 6-piece (packed length 550 mm) for open-area long-casting. The GT406-5S covers 1-6g lures on 2-6 lb line; the GT906-6S handles 5-40g on PE #0.8-2.0 braid. No intermediate lengths exist in this series. The GT406-5S uses a regular action taper suited to playing small fish; the GT906-6S uses a regular-fast taper for casting mid-weight plugs, spoons, and jigs.
