A packable multi-piece micro-game series tuned for saltwater light-game fishing made for small coastal species, horse mackerel (aji), rockfish (mebaru/kasago), and similar inshore micro-predators. The R-suffix in model names denotes a renewal (second-generation) blank with improved carbon material and reduced weight. Designed for the Japanese light-game genre where casting jig-head worms, small metal jigs, and micro-plugs in PE #0.2–#0.6 range is standard. Also works for freshwater finesse where the same ultralight approach applies.
Graphite blanks (not glass) with fast/extra-fast tip actions, designed for sensitivity in detecting subtle bottom contact and soft takes. Tubular tips on the spinning models prioritize sensitivity over the softer bend of solid tips. Stainless steel frames with SIC rings throughout. Split-grip cork handle. Pack-rod construction (5–6 pieces) closes to roughly 440mm, making it carry-on friendly. The casting model (MG700R-5C) is an unusual inclusion in this otherwise spinning-dominated micro-game format, made for anglers who prefer baitfinesse setups.
Four models across three lengths: 6ft, 7ft (two variants, spinning and casting), and 8ft. All spinning except the 7ft casting model. Power steps from ML (6ft) through M (7ft casting) with fast action, to the 8ft which extends lure ceiling to 3/8oz, appropriate for longer casts in open surf or larger target species like small sea bass.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The only casting model in the series, addresses baitfinesse anglers who prefer small baitcasters for micro-game. The 7ft length and M action give slightly more authority than the spinning siblings for jig-head pitching in tight structure.
Longest model, six-piece construction. The extra reach suits estuary or open shoreline casting where distance matters, and a 6-piece pack format maintains the travel-rod compact profile despite the longer unfolded length.
