YS

The Huerco YS series is a two-rod collaboration between Huerco and Yamanami Shoten (山波商店), a Japanese mountain-stream specialist retailer. Both rods target small-water headwater trout fishing, native char and yamame in tight, technical Japanese mountain streams, where the angler presents sinking minnows with precision casts of 3–7 g. Manufacturer copy (translated): "Specialized for native trout fishing using heavy sinking minnows" (ネイティブトラウトにヘビーシンキングミノーを使った釣りに特化). These are boutique, collector-quality rods made for skilled stream anglers who value both craftsmanship and technical performance.

Both models use carbon rod blanks with spigot (parallel) ferrule joints and Fuji SiC-ring guides with stainless frames. The reel seat and grip are made from bird's eye maple wood, with gunmetal hardware throughout, placing both rods in the artisan Japanese trout category. The 5-piece construction on each model reduces collapsed length to approximately 34–35 cm, enabling pack or vest carry to remote headwater locations. Priced at ¥57,200 and comparable, these are premium specialty instruments. The series consists of two models: the YS406-5S (4'6", spinning, UL, medium action) for anglers using spinning tackle, and the YS408-5C (4'8", baitcasting, medium action, 6 lb max, 7 g max cast) for bait-finesse-system (BFS) anglers who prefer the control of a baitcaster for tight-loop accuracy.

Both share the same Yamanami collaboration aesthetic; they represent the casting/spinning split within a unified design language.
