The Dear Monster Special Edition encompasses the flagship and premium-tier models within Monster Kiss's travel rod lineup, a Japanese brand founded by monster fish hunter Takuya Kozuka. Every rod in the series packs to under 50 cm (the Under Fifty Concept, established 2014), allowing carry-on airline transport worldwide. Construction relies on purpose-built short blanks joined at reinforced ends rather than cutting down long blanks, a method Monster Kiss calls Joint Protect Layering. All non-telescopic models feature Edge Guide Architecture, placing guides at blank ends and lashing them with double-foot, double-wrapped thread for durability across years of hard overseas use.

The lineup covers an unusually wide application range. The pole-style MX-00, MX-02, MX-03, and MX-0 are fixed-line rods scaled from an 80 cm micro rod to a 360 cm stream rod, each with a variable-length telescoping blank and interchangeable cork or EVA grip. The spinning models range from the ultra-light fixed-line MX-1 through to the 10-foot saltwater MX-10SW. Casting models include the MX-55, MX-65, and MX-75, a three-rod baitcasting progression from ML to H, plus the premium Z-series MZ-6S and MZ-7 with titanium-frame Torzite ring guides. The SW saltwater trio (MX-6SW, MX-8SW, MX-10SW) uses wide-ring spinning guides for PE braided line and covers jigging, casting, and shore applications.

Special construction features on select models include the Interchangeable System D13 (13 mm grip insert diameter shared across the lineup for mix-and-match grips and extensions), the Variable Length System (extension shaft option), and the Module Grip Concept for fully reconfigurable grip assemblies. The Z-series rods (MZ-6S, MZ-7) fold to 40 cm rather than 50 cm and carry single-wrap guide thread to reduce weight. The MX-39 was a 2022 tenth-anniversary limited model at 3'9" (the length spelling out 'thank you' in Japanese numerals), the shortest and lightest rod in the Dear Monster line.

MX-39 Casting · 3'9" · UL · F action

Released in summer 2022 as a tenth-anniversary limited model, MX-39's length of 3'9" spells out 'sankyu' (thank you) in Japanese phonetic numerals. It is the shortest and lightest rod in Dear Monster history, aimed at headwater baitfinesse fishing but adaptable to ultralight saltwater jigging and ice fishing. Construction uses titanium-frame Torzite ring guides with full double-foot, double-wrap thread, making it the only UL Dear Monster with that guide spec. No longer listed for sale.

MX-1 Spinning · 2'11"-4'3" · UL · F action

MX-1 is best understood as a guided fixed-line rod with a built-in line stocker rather than a conventional spinning rod. The guide train exists to manage line rather than cast in the traditional sense. At 40 g and sub-meter collapsed length, it is the lightest spinning-designated Dear Monster. The telescoping blank varies across three lengths and carries extra-hard action for sensitivity, enabling ultralight jigging in wind conditions where ordinary rods fail.

MX-6SW Spinning · 6'3" · MH · RF action

The lightest rod in the SW saltwater trio, MX-6SW bridges vertical jigging and casting on one blank. It shares its blank core with the baitcasting MX-6+ but is retuned as a spinning rod with wide-ring W guides. The reel seat ships in uplock position and can be swapped to downlock for pure jigging work. Covers high-pitch jigging up to 200 g alongside 15 g minnow casting, making it the do-everything SW travel option.

MX-10SW Spinning · 10'0" · H · RF action

At 10 feet, MX-10SW is the longest rod in the entire Dear Monster lineup and the only one that pushes the Under Fifty Concept to its absolute 50 cm stored-length limit. Despite its length, the 7-piece build delivers full airline carry-on compliance. Rated Heavy with a 10-60 g lure range and PE up to 3, it covers shore casting for mid-tier pelagics and reef species where distance matters.
