The St. Croix Bass X is an entry-level bass rod made for recreational and developing tournament anglers who want domestic manufacturing and brand-name construction at a sub-$150 price point. The series covers technique-specific bass fishing from finesse light line presentations through big-bait applications up to 3 oz, making it a functional single-brand option for anglers rigging multiple rods. Blanks are built on St. Croix's SCII mid-modulus graphite with the Fortified Resin System (FRS), which keeps carbon fiber alignment consistent under load.
Guide trains use a hybrid of SeaGuide aluminum oxide and Atlas Performance stainless steel frames, a braid-compatible configuration that reduces weight and guide noise. Handles are premium cork with EVA butt sections; reel seats are nylon with EVA locking nuts. Construction is done in Park Falls, Wisconsin. The 14-model lineup (10 casting, 4 spinning) covers lengths from 6'6" to 7'11". Casting models span M to H power in Fast, Extra-Fast, Moderate-Fast, and Moderate actions to address specific technique niches, jigs, cranks, swimbaits, flipping, and general presentations.
The four spinning models at 6'8"–7'1" in ML through MH handle finesse work from drop-shot to Ned rig and medium-weight presentations. Actions range from XF down to M to match lure behavior.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Extra-fast M power at 6'8" handles light-to-mid lures with precision. Suited for jigs, light Texas rigs, and finesse presentations requiring a fast hookset and direct feel.
Light finesse spinning in extra-fast action. Drop-shot, Ned rig, and small wacky-rig work where sensitivity and hookset speed on a delicate presentation are the priority.
Heavier spinning entry handles larger soft plastics and weighted rigs. MH power provides backbone for bigger fish on spinning tackle without sacrificing castability at 7'1".
Moderate action in MH is the crankbait-specific model. The softer tip allows treble-hook lures to load fully and prevents pulling the bait away during reaction strikes.
H-power fast with braid rating to 65lb. Mid-length flipping and pitching rod where shorter stroke and strong backbone are prioritized over maximum casting distance.
The heavy swimbait and punching entry. 7'10" length with braid-to-80lb rating handles large swimbaits, heavy flipping, and mat punching where the other H-power model lacks reach.
