The Premier is St. Croix's generalist freshwater rod. It covers panfish at the ultralight end and bass at the medium-heavy end with no technique specialization. As the brand's longest-running and best-selling line, it suits anglers who want one well-made rod that handles whatever's in season. Blanks are SCII carbon fiber treated with St. Croix's Fortified Resin System, which the company claims raises tensile strength about 33% over conventional resins.
The current generation adds Taper Enhancement Technology, a curved-mandrel construction that lightens the blank by roughly 10% and refines action transitions. Handles use premium cork with composite cork accents, guides are aluminum-oxide with stainless-steel inserts, and reel seats are nylon. American-made in Park Falls, Wisconsin, with a 5-year warranty. The lineup runs 45 models, 37 spinning and 8 casting.
Casting options are M or MH in 6'6" and 7'. Spinning starts at 4'6" UL for panfish and trout, tops out at 7'6" M, with H power available in 7'. Every Premier is Fast action. Many lengths ship in both one-piece and two-piece versions. The trailing "2" in model numbers (e. g. SCPS66MF vs SCPS66MF2) marks the two-piece variant. MSRP $145 to $215.
