The St. Croix Black Bass Spinning series is a technique-versatile freshwater bass rod line built for serious bass anglers who favor spinning tackle. The series is designed to cover the full spectrum of spinning-based bass presentations, from finesse techniques like drop shot and ned rig to heavier options like big swimbaits on spinning gear, through a broad range of models differentiated by length, power, and action. The RIS710MMF is the long-range, moderate-fast model suited for swimbaits, umbrella rigs, and moving baits that benefit from a softer tip.
All blanks are premium SCIII carbon fiber sealed with St. Croix's FRS (fortified resin system) and shaped with IPC mandrel technology to eliminate transition points for smooth action and maximum sensitivity. Multi-material handle construction combines premium EVA with cork trim to amplify vibrations. Aluminum oxide guide frames with stainless-steel inserts are used throughout. The Black Bass series includes 12 spinning and 24 casting models total, covering the full range of modern bass techniques. All rods are handcrafted in Park Falls, Wisconsin.
The spinning lineup spans lengths from 6'8" to 7'10" in ML through MH power, with XF, F, and MF action variants at various size points. The 7'10" length is available in two powers (ML XF and M MF), covering finesse and moving-bait applications at maximum reach. Retail pricing runs from approximately $145 to $175 across the spinning models, with 2-piece variants available at a modest premium.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The longest model in the Black Bass spinning lineup and the only one with Moderate-Fast instead of Fast or Extra-Fast action. The MF action and 7'10" length are matched to moving baits, swimbaits, bladed jigs, and umbrella rigs, where a longer lever and softer tip improve lure action and reduce the chance of pulling hooks during the fight. The 6–20 lb line range is notably broad for a spinning rod.
